The last day of school is almost here!
Let’s make the most of summer by finishing well!
Whether you’re going on vacation or running around to local activities, you’ll want to make sure you wrap up this school year well so you can focus your full attention on summer! Here are 3 things to think about doing as the school year comes to a close:
- Clean out your kids’ backpack: During the summer, the last thing you want are half used crayons, notebooks, old homework, library books, etc. floating around your house! Celebrate the last day of school, but make sure you and the kids have time to re-home the items in the next few days. This is also a great time to talk with your kids about recycling and reusing. Crayola has just launched a new program called ColorCycle with hope that “[t]hrough this initiative, students in K-12 schools across the continental United States and parts of Canada can collect and repurpose used Crayola markers.” You can read more about it HERE. See if your school has this program or one like it so you can clean responsibly.
- Schedule well child check ups or sports physicals: Have you ever experienced the scramble to update your kids’ medical records right when school or sports are starting? It’s stressful, and some clinics are super busy so getting an appointment quickly can be a challenge. Just get an appointment on the calendar now and forget about until you get the reminder email!
- Decide on a routine to keep kids’ minds engaged over the break: Summer is a wonderful time for non-academic opportunities, but keeping your their minds focused on some school tasks will work in your favor when September comes around. Decide what will work for your family now AND forewarn your kids about this casual academic routine. They will likely resist, but they will have time to process it.
I hope things are coming together for a wonderful summer full of memories!

Love that Crayola is stepping up to help reduce the amount of plastic in the trash. Agree that it’s a great way to teach kids to do their part to make the planet a cleaner, safer place.
