The holidays are over. In my home, it’s obvious. There is a mountain of new toys, my closets are turned inside out from the Christmas decor, my fridge and counters are still overflowing with desserts, Christmas cards clutter the window. Where in the world am I going to put all this stuff?! Lets just breathe a moment. Ok, we can do this.
January is the perfect month to reorganize your house. It’s cold outside so who wants to be out there anyways? You’re still running on the energy from the holidays. The house needs to readjust to accommodate whatever Santa brought you this year. You have the motivation! Now what is our strategy?
Good question. Because when I look at my mess, I melt into my own anxious puddle. Well, thankfully, there is Pinterest. Over the next few weeks, I will be highlighting some awesome ideas to reorganize your house in to a place you’d be proud to invite Martha Stewart to. Before we get organizing, lets talk through a few starting points.
- Things get worse before they get better: Prepare yourself for the stress of making an even bigger mess. When you organize a space, it is most helpful to take everything out, decide what stays and what goes, and then put back in based on your new system. Make sure you have enough time to tackle the space in a reasonable amount of time. You don’t want this mess to mix with other ones in the house.
- Make a budget: Organizing requires some investment. There are many different price ranges at which you can find organizational materials, but we don’t all have the money to purchase a California Closet or go hog wild at The Container Store. This might mean that you budget a certain amount and tackle one room a month. Figure out what works for your family. We will be highlighting many affordable and creative ways to store your stuff in the weeks to come.
- Donate and De-clutter: Its time to confront your inner hoarder. You know, the one that makes you save all the plastic containers or save every piece of your child’s artwork. Its time to honestly look at the things at your house and ask “what purpose does this have?” Its time to look at your closet and ask “when was the last time I wore this?” Hard questions, but it will be worth the sanity you’ve given yourself in the end.
Are you ready? What area of your home are you most excited to organize? What has worked for you when organizing in the past? Norwex can give you a Safe Haven, but only YOU can give yourself a SANE Haven!
