“Why buy something brand new when you can make your old stuff new again?!”
That is what I kept telling my friends when they suggested I take my old, beat up table to the dump! This table has served me well for a long time! We have built many memories around it- family meals, family games, homework. It’s special to us so I wasn’t willing to part with it, even though it was fading. Thankfully, my friend Anna approached me with a different solution. She saw the potential in the bones of this old table to be something beautiful again so I let her work magic!
And…Voila!
Isn’t that beautiful?! New life has been breathed into the bones of my bedraggled table. Who knows what new memories it will see us through now! Upcycling is not just a way to save money, but a way to save our environment from the pressure of more “stuff.” When we make old things new, we save the energy and materials needed to make a new product and keep more things from ending up in already overflowing landfills. It is tempting to want something brand new, but I’m happy to save a tree from becoming a table as well.
When have you taken something ‘old’ and turned it into something refreshed and beautiful? I’d love to hear your stories below!
